Avon Tyres Score Racing Car Hat-trick with Vanwall

Contributing Writer For the third time in six months,
Avon tyres have landed an OE contract with a British
sports car manufacturer. Cooper Tire and Rubber Company
Europe ltd, the parent company of Avon, has announced
that an agreement has been made with the
Peterborough-based manufacturer Vanwall.
Vanwall is a post-war racing marque that was rejuvenated
in 2003 to form Vanwall Cars and produce the Vanwall
Sports Racer. Avon has struck deals with both Connaught
and Morgan this year, and now the Vanwall V12-powered
Grand Prix Racer will be officially sporting Avon Turbo
Steel 70 tyres.
The Vanwall V12 GPR is a two-seater, road legal car that
is built according to each customer’s specification…a
personalised service that can boost the car price to
over ?50,000. Its style reflects that of the classic
1950’s Formula One cars of Vanwall’s post-war heyday,
designed by Colin Chapman and driven to victory by Sir
Stirling Moss.
Composed of lightweight aluminium or carbon fibre, the
Vanwall GPR V12 weighs in at less than a ton…with a 6.0
litre V12 engine that is held to recreate the original
1950’s golden age GPR thrill.
Following a successful twenty-year involvement with Avon
tyres, Vanwall manufacturers supposedly hand-selected
the themed, high profile Avon Turbo Steel 70 (235/70
R15) tyre for its outstanding performance and impressive
road-holding abilities in diverse conditions. The
six-rib tread is designed to enhance traction and
maintain comfort and handling, while the interior steel
belts resist high-speed distortion.
