One of the two most important tyre safety issues is when to replace worn tyres. In other words, how much tread does a tyre need to be safe?

Previous tests by various manufacturers and other organisations were done a long time ago, and some may have been prejudiced for commercial reasons. So we decided to carry out some tests of our own.

The tests, which were filmed, were carried out at MIRA Ltd in Warwickshire in September 2007. We were assisted by Vicki Butler-Henderson who, as well as being an expert driver, has first class television presenting skills.
