Land Rover tyres
Off-road or on the road, Land Rover vehicles have not only seen it all but done it all, too.
The Land Rover range now includes the Freelander, Discovery, Range Rover and Evoque. All of these are as much at home on the King’s Road in Chelsea as muddy fields in the Shires. Even if they are marketed more at urban drivers, all these models have the off-road DNA of the eponymous vehicle which launched the marque back in 1948. Back then, it was called the ‘Series I’. We now know it as the ‘Defender’ and it is still being made today.
The company holds a Royal Warrant as supplier to the Royal household. That relationship with Land Rover goes back to 1948 when King George VI viewed the original Land Rover.
The Queen, who is regularly photographed at the wheel, took delivery of her first one shortly after coming to the throne in 1952 and has used Land Rovers ever since. Winston Churchill was given one as an 80th birthday present at his home in Chartwell. Another was used for Pope John Paul II’s tour of England in 1982.
The Land Rover was the original off-road vehicle. Modern models still excel in that environment, even if hardly any of them actually leave tarmac road surfaces. What is integral to the brand’s popularity, though, is that perception of rugged authenticity, the knowledge that the vehicle won’t let you down, no matter what you hurl at it.
An important factor on tyre choice will be the amount of off-road driving your Land Rover or Range Rover undertakes. While most models never leave the road, a range of tyres are available to suit those which do. Each of these is designed to complement various ratios of on-road and off-road driving.
